Mechuka
Also known as: Menchukha, Mechukha
A high Buddhist valley on the Yargyap Chu near the Line of Actual Control, centred on the Memba community and the old Samten Yongcha monastery.

Overview
Mechuka is the headquarters of Shi Yomi district, a broad river valley at roughly 1,900 m on the Yargyap Chu (Siyom), about 30 km from the Line of Actual Control with Tibet.[1],[2]
The valley's principal community is the Memba, a Buddhist people culturally linked to Tibet, living alongside Ramo, Libo and Tagin households; the hillside Samten Yongcha monastery of the Nyingma school is the valley's oldest religious building.[1],[3]
History
The Memba trace descent from Tibetan-origin migration into the Siyom valley, and the valley sat on old trans-Himalayan trade paths; it became a forward administrative and military area after 1962 and was opened to civilian tourism only in recent decades.[1],[2]
Shi Yomi district was carved out in 2018 with Mechuka as its headquarters.[1]
Culture & cultural significance
Buddhist practice dominates village life, with prayer flags, chortens and monastery rites; Losar is the main annual festival and Memba households keep yak and practise terrace farming.[1],[3]
Traditional architecture
Traditional houses are timber and plank-built with shingled or tin roofs suited to heavy winter weather; the monastery is a small wood-framed complex above the valley floor.[1],[3]
