Northeast India is home to more than two hundred tribes, each with its own calendar of harvest rites, new-year ceremonies and cultural celebrations. NortheastFestivals.com is a long-form, photograph-led directory of the festivals worth planning a trip around.
The site is written, fact-checked and operated by Living Roots Tours & Adventure (also trading as Living Roots Expeditions), a Northeast India-based tour operator that has run tribal, cultural, festival and wildlife journeys across Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim since 2015.
Every festival page is researched against state tourism sources, fact-checked before publication, and paired with practical guidance — permits, travel routes, weather, accommodation and photography tips.
The photographs you see today are licensed placeholders. We are working with state tourism departments and Wikimedia Commons contributors to replace them with authentic, festival-specific imagery.
Who we are
Our guides are from the region. They walk these routes every season, work directly with village elders, church committees and organising bodies, and attend the major festivals — Hornbill in Nagaland, Wangala in Meghalaya, Ziro and Myoko in Arunachal Pradesh, Sangai in Manipur — year after year. That first-hand attendance is what separates the dates, venues and etiquette notes on this site from aggregated listings.
We also arrange the practical side of a festival trip: Protected Area Permits and Inner Line Permits for foreign nationals, transport on roads that change with the monsoon, vetted homestays in villages that have no online booking presence, and interpreters where a dialect is spoken by only a few thousand people.
How we research and correct pages
Festival dates are taken from state tourism departments, district administrations and the organising tribal bodies, then re-checked before each season. Where a date has not yet been announced we say so plainly rather than repeating last year's. Pages carry a "last reviewed" line so you can see how current the information is; the site was last reviewed in July 2026.
If you spot an error — a moved date, a renamed village, a permit rule that has changed — email dmclivingroots@gmail.com and we will verify it against the source and update the page.
