Overview

Kaho is a small village in Anjaw district on the bank of the Lohit river near Walong, routinely described as the easternmost inhabited village in India.[1],[2]

It is home to the Meyor (Zakhring), one of the smallest recognised communities in Arunachal Pradesh, numbering only a few hundred people, who follow Tibetan Buddhism.[2],[3]

History

The Walong sector saw one of the hardest-fought actions of the 1962 India–China war, commemorated at the Walong war memorial a short drive from Kaho.[1],[4]

The Meyor are Buddhist, with a small village gompa, prayer flags and cultural links to both Tibetan and Mishmi neighbours; households farm terraces and keep livestock.[2],[3]
